Austin’s Traffic Rank Improves!
Although it may sound like a joke, Austin’s traffic is actually improving over the years. TomTom recently released it’s 2016 Traffic Index report, and Austin ranked in at No. 21. The good news is that the No. 21 spot is an improvement on 2015’s No. 13 ranking and 2014’s No. 16 ranking. The bad news is that Austin is still the second most congested city in Texas, following Houston at No. 11. Although it comes to no surprise for any Austinite, most public polls distinguish traffic as the No. 1 problem facing Austin. A report from Inrix found that the underlying cause for worsening traffic was strong gross domestic product (GDP) growth, which Austin is certainly experiencing. But, given local efforts to improve congestion and Austin’s improved ranking, maybe there’s still hope to tame the traffic beast?
Exclusively in Austin: Ford’s Car Sharing Program
Ford has launched it’s new Ford Credit Link pilot program in Austin! The program, which launched in February, allows a group of 3 to 6 Texas residents to co-sign a 2-year lease on a new Ford vehicle. The target users for program are co-workers, roommates, or large families, who may not need a vehicle at all times, but would like access to their own when necessary. Ford has even created a mobile app that will link to the vehicle so lease member can track schedules, payments, and maintenance in an attempt to mitigate the predictable problems that may arise in sharing a car. The pilot program is available at 3 area dealerships: Covert Ford, Leif Johnson Ford, and Maxwell Ford.
